Coach Scott Barnes started coaching in 2015 where he was an assistant coach for the Georgetown Bearcats Elementary Cross Country team in the New Albany Track Club. He helped lead the team to a runner up finish in the Championship. A few years later he took over the Girls Cross Country team at Highland Hills Middle School where he lead them to an undefeated season. He is currently the Head Coach for the Boys Track and Cross Country team at Highland Hills Middle School where he has led the team to numerous county Championships and has had several athletes qualify for the State Championship. In 2021 Coach Barnes Co-Founded the Highlander Run Club to help keep local Track and Cross Country athletes conditioned during the off season. Coach Barnes also coaches privately and has helped numerous athletes hit their goals in several distances from 5k to Marathon, and even Full Distance 140.6 Triathlons. In 2024, he founded the Pacesetter Track Club with the goal of still coaching locally but while also offering coaching services Globally all under one Umbrella. So whether you are looking to stay conditioned and still compete in the off season, or if you are looking for guidance in achieving your next PR, Coach Barnes can help tailor a training plan to fit you needs.
Coach Barnes is also an active runner himself. He competes in several distances from 5k to Ultra Marathons. He also competes in Triathlons from Sprint to Full 140.6 Ironman distance races. Coach Barnes’ holds a 2:47 best marathon at the 2024 Boston Marathon and a 10:51 full distance Ironman. He also ran the Rim2Rim2Rim at the Grand Canyon in 2022.
